Ahly's playmaker Magdi Afsha continued his habit of scoring with precise shots from outside the area to give his team a memorable African Champions League title at the expense of arch-rivals Zamalek on Friday.

With the score tied at 1-1 four minutes from time, Afsha stole ahead of Achraf Bencharki to fire an unstoppable right-foot volley into the far corner of the net, giving Ahly a record-extending ninth Champions League title

He scored with similar strikes against Morocco's Wydad in the semi-final and with the Egyptian national team against Togo in an African Cup of Nations qualifier.

"I didn't hesitate before shooting; I always practice on how to press opposing midfielders, whether with the national team or Ahly, to steal possession and fire goalwards," Afsha told beIN Sports after the game.

"I faced much criticism but I always focus on getting better. I thank both who criticized and who praised me."

The 24-year-old has been a key Ahly player since joining from Pyramids FC in the summer of 2019. He scored eight goals and provided 10 assists this season as the Red Devils won the Egyptian Premier League and the African Champions League.
