The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) Chairman Gamal Allam announces that the Egyptian Premier League will kick off soon after the presidential office gave the green light.
"The association presented the current situation with all its complications to the presidential representative during Sunday’s meeting and they gave us the green light to resume league matches as soon as possible," Allam was quoted as saying on the EFA official website.
The Egyptian league was suspended since 1 February when 72 Ahly fans died in attacks, allegedly by the opposing fans, during a match in Port Said stadium.
Ahly fans insist that the Egyptian league should remain frozen until the court investigating the case issues verdicts. The fans even vow to ruin any domestic match held before the judgment is announced.
Allam and the chairmen from Egypt's top two teams, Ahly's Hassan Hamdy and Zamalek's Mamduh Abbas, met with the President Morsi's assistant, Emad Abdel-Ghafour to discuss whether the league should resume.
"Clubs and national teams have suffered from a lack of resources since the league was suspended," Allam concluded.
