Zamalek’s board has greenlit the exit of Portuguese-Brazilian manager Jorvan Vieira when his contract expires on 30 June.

According to Al-Ahram’s Arabic news website, the White Castles have agreed that the manager will remain until 8 July.

Assistant coach Osama Nabih is the favourite for a care-taking post after Vieira's departure, but negotiations between the club and Vieira are still on.

Despite their 2-0 Egyptian League defeat by Ittihad of Alexandria on Monday, Zamalek – who had already secured their place in the final round of a new two-group league competition – remain atop Group B with 36 points.

In the African Champions League, Zamalek were drawn in the same group as their rivals Ahly, along with AC Leopards of Congo and Orlando Pirates of South Africa. They will kickoff their matches against Ahly on 20 July.
