Egypt’s cabinet has decided to resume the Egyptian Premier league on 13 April despite the lack of security that caused Saturday’s riots at Cairo stadium.

“The league will be resumed as initially scheduled on 13 April and it the supporters will be allowed to attend the matches,” the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) said in a statement on Tuesday.

Zamalek’s fans invaded the pitch to attack the Algerian referee and Tunisia’s Club Africain players in the CAF Champions League round of 32.

Egypt’s Prime Minister Essam Sharaf hinted that the domestic league may be cancelled this season, but he retracted after a meeting on Tuesday with Egypt FA president Samir Zaher and President of the National Council of Sports Hassan Sakr.
