Local football authorities suspended Talae El-Geish frontman Salah Amin from domestic football during the current season and fined him LE20,000 for making a political gesture during a league game.

The 31-year-old striker was being investigated by the Egyptian Football Association's disciplinary committee after making a political gesture - understood to be in support of Egypt's military chief Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi - which he made while celebrating a goal against Ismaily.

The player's military team was also fined LE10,000 in the decision, announced on Thursday, for not replying to the EFA letters related to the case.

Ahly forward Ahmed Abdel-Zaher was also involved in a similar incident after flashing the four-fingered Rabaa sign – a pro-Muslim Brotherhood gesture – in the Champions League final against South Africa's Orlando Pirates in November last year.

Despite the EFA stating at the time that Abdel-Zaher would be questioned, Ahly took matters into their own hands by suspending the striker and putting him on the transfer market.
