Egypt’s Olympic team threw away their lead to lose 2-1 to Japan in a friendly on Wednesday as part of their preparations for the 2012 London Games qualifiers

Petrojet striker Marwan Mohsen put Egypt ahead after five minutes but Japan leveled the score six minutes later before scoring the winner in the 75thminute.

Egypt, who are coached by former Egyptian defender Hany Ramzy, are eager to qualify for the Olympic Games for the first time since the 1992 tournament in Barcelona.

They reached the qualifiers’ group stage after beating neighbors Sudan 2-0 on aggregate in June. Egypt will also face India in two friendly games later this month.
