Egyptian Football Association (EFA) president Hany Abo Rida said on Thursday that the Pharaohs coach Hector Cuper asked him to postpone negotiations concerning his contract renewal until the end of the World Cup, adding that the Argentinean wants to remain at his post.

"I hope that he remains at his post to lead the Pharaohs in the Nations Cup qualifiers, which will be played just two months after the end of the World Cup."

Cuper was named as the Pharaohs coach in March 2015, succeeding Shawki Gharib, who left his post after failing to reach the 2015 Nations Cup.

Cuper’s contract with the Pharaohs expires after the end of this summer's World Cup.

Under his guidance, the Pharaohs qualified for the 2017 Nations Cup after six years of absence, and he helped them reach the final before losing to Cameroon 2-1.

The 62-year-old tactician also helped the Pharaohs end a 28-year World Cup drought after leading their Group in the World Cup qualifiers to make their first appearance since Italy 1990.

Egypt will start their World Cup campaign on the 15th of next month when they face Uruguay.

The Pharaohs were drawn in Group A alongside Uruguay, hosts Russia and fellow Arab country Saudi Arabia.
