Egypt's national football team held its position at number 49 in the FIFA global football rankings, which was published on Thursday.

The Pharaohs came sixth among African countries in the FIFA rankings, behind Senegal (20), Tunisia (29), Nigeria (34), Algeria (38) and Morocco (39).

It also came fourth among Arab countries, after Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco.

In the last FIFA ranking released in July, Egypt's national team also occupied the same 49th spot.

The Pharaohs, who have been inactive since their elimination from the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in July, are currently searching for a new coach following the sacking of Mexican tactician Javier Aguirre.

The Pharoahs drew in Group G of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers alongside Kenya, Togo and Comoros.

They will play their first official game in November against Kenya.

Egypt made it into the world's top 10 teams when they won three successive CAN trophies back in 2006, 2008 and 2010.

Meanwhile Belgium remains on top of the FIFA ranking, ahead of France, Brazil and England, while Portugal jumped one place to fifth.

The best mover in the new ranking was Grenada, jumping 13 places to the 160 place, while the worst movers were Cook Islands, who dropped nine to the 809 place.
