Egypt national football team kicked off their first training camp under new coach Hossam El-Badry on Monday ahead of facing Botswana on 14 October at the Cairo International Stadium.

On Saturday, El-Badry called up a 19-man squad from the local-based players, including three new faces, while Ahly's veteran right-back Ahmed Fathi returned to join the camp. 

Earlier in September, the coach initially called up five foreign-based players including star winger Mohamed Salah for the Botswana match, before deciding later on to omit the Liverpool player to give him extra time to rest.

Foreign-based quartet Mahmoud 'Trezeguet' Hassan (Aston Villa), Ahmed 'Kouka' Hassan (SC Braga), Mohamed Elneny (Besiktas) and Ahmed Hegazi (West Bromwich) arrived in Cairo on Sunday, according to the Egyptian Football Association.

The former Ahly player and coach El-Badry was recently appointed as Egypt's national team manager, succeeding Mexican tactician Javier Aguirre who was sacked after quickly exiting from the 16th round of the Africa Cup of Nations held home in July.

El-Badry is the first Egyptian manager in Egypt's hot seat in four years following Argentinean tactician Hector Cuper (2015-2018) and Javier Aguirre (2018-2019).

Egypt are competing in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers alongside the 2022 World Cup qualifiers. The first official tests for El-Badry with the national team will be facing Kenya and Comoros in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in November.
