Egypt U-23 national football team held to 1-1 draw by their counterpart in South Africa in a friendly game that took place at Ismailia Stadium on Friday ahead of the two sides participation in the 2019 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations kicks off next month.
The friendly game was played in three sets after agreement between the two sides to give a chance for the technical staffs to try more players during the game.
Ahmed Yasser Rayan scored Egypt’s goal in the first set.
The Young Pharaohs will host the South African side again at Ismailia Stadium on Sunday within the team's last preparatory camp ahead of the African tournament that will be held in Egypt from 8 to 22 November.
Egypt have been drawn in Group A of the 2019 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations alongside Cameroon, Ghana and Mali.
South Africa are in Group B of the tournament alongside, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, South Africa and Zambia.
The first three teams will qualify directly to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, while the fourth-place finisher will play against a team from the Asian Football Confederation, to also book a seat in the Olympics.
Egypt finished third at the 2011 U23 Nations Cup and suffered an embarrassing group-stage exit in the 2015 edition.
