The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has approved the participation of the Under-23 national team in Saudia Arabia's Arab Cup as part of their preparations for the 2012 London Olympics.

The senior team, under American manager Bob Bradley, were supposed to take part in the competition, but the EFA saw the tournament as a good training opportunity for the U-23 team ahead of the London Games.

The Arab Cup will take place in Jeddah and Taif from 22 June to 5 July, few weeks before the Olympic Games get underway.

The Olympic team qualified for the Olympics after 20 years of absence, their last appearance was in 1992 in Barcelona, where they lost against Spain and Qatar, though they defeated Colombia and failed to progress beyond the group stage.

They are supposed to hold a training camp in Costa Rica starting on10 April, where they will play a number of friendlies in preparation for the London Games.
