Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah expressed his delight with his team's 3-1 victory over Belarus on Wednesday in the final day of the group stage.

The victory helped the Egyptian team reach the Olympic football quarterfinals for the first time since 1984.

"I'm very happy that we succeeded in reaching the quarterfinals. It means that the team are on the right track," the 21-year-old forward, who joined Swiss side Basel this summer, said in televised comments on Wednesday.

The former Arab Contractors forward gave a string of strong performance with the Egyptian team during the last three games.

"I try to do my best with all the teams I play for," he said. "That's just my way of doing things."

Salah went on to say he was hoping for a win against Japan in Olympic quarterfinals on Saturday.

"We're looking to beat Japan in Saturday’s game to complete our Olympic campaign. I hope we succeed in clinching a medal. That would be enormous," Salah concluded.
