Egyptian defender Amro Tarek has expressed delight after joining Real Betis, the newly-promoted club to the Spanish La Liga.
"I am very enthusiastic. The club officials trust me and talk to me in a very friendly way and apparently they don't want to stress me so early," Tarek told an Egyptian television programme. "When I walk in the streets of Spain, people recognise me and want to take photos with me."
The 23-year-old left Egyptian Premier League club Gouna, whom he joined in January 2013, after stints with the second teams of Germany's Freiburg and Wolfsburg.
"Former Real Madrid star Rafael van der Vaart was the first player who talked to me when I entered the training pitch. Such an honor! He talked to me about Ahmed 'Mido' Hossam, praising him and he asked me to say hi to him," Tarek said.
Mido, a former Tottenham Hotspur and Ajax Amsterdam star who played beside Vaart, coached Egyptian side Zamalek last season, inspiring them to win Egypt Cup.
Amro Tarek also spoke about reports that mentioned he didn't continue the training.
"I didn't complete the third session, not the first. They understand that I am fatigued. Last match I played with Gouna was on 25 June," he said.
The second Egyptian to feature in La Liga after Mido who had a short spell at Celta Vigo, Amro Tarek spoke about his ambitions.
"I hope I can succeed with Betis, helping the team reach the European competitions, and I also hope I play in the Egyptian national team soon," Tarek concluded.
Tarek, who was born in the United States, said earlier this week that Gouna had accepted a €300,000 offer from Real Betis to acquire his services.
