Liverpool are reportedly eyeing a shock move for unsettled Chelsea winger Mohamed Salah, as the Anfield club target a potential replacement for Raheem Sterling who left for Manchester City the past week.

After dazzling for Fiorentina during his six-month loan stint in Italy last season, Salah was initially thought to be set for a permanent switch to the Serie A side, where he scored nine goals and bagged four assists in all competitions.

But a recent fallout with Viola saw Salah opt against extending his stay in Florence, with Italian giants Inter Milan entering the race for the 23-year-old's signing.

Italian website Calcio Mercato, however, revealed another contender ready to vie for Salah's services, with Liverpool now targeting the Egypt star to fill the void left by Sterling.

Having reported back to Chelsea training, the future of Salah remains unknown, with some reports suggesting that he may well stay at Stamford Bridge despite failing to hold down a regular place since arriving from Basel in January 2013.
