Egypt and Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah has been voted the UEFA player of the week in a live poll on the UEFA official website, beating Barcelona and Real Madrid stars Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Salah collected %51 of the votes after scoring and producing a superb performance in Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Sevilla in their opening Champions League game on Wednesday.

Messi, who netted a brace to guide Barcelona to a 3-0 win over Juventus, got %20 of the votes and Ronaldo, who also scored a double in Madrid's 3-0 victory over APOEL Nicosia, came third with %12.

Salah scored his fourth goal for Liverpool in seven appearances since joining in the summer but the English side were denied in an exciting draw with Sevilla in their Group E opener.

Earlier this week, the 25-year-old said he is very happy with his fine start at Liverpool, highlighting the important role of his teammates who helped him quickly adapt to the new surroundings.

"I'm very happy to have this start with the team and to help the team win points and win games," Salah told Liverpool's official website.

"I'm very happy to be here, it's like my family. I'm happy to be [at] the club with these players."
