Liverpool's Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah was valued at €140.5 million by a CIES Football Observatory study, coming 12th in a world ranking compiled by the research group.

Salah came ahead of some prominent stars including former Liverpool teammate Philippe Coutinho, who sealed a €160 million move to Barcelona on Saturday, Chelsea's Belgian wizard Eden Hazard, Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski and Manchester City frontman Sergio Aguero.

The study "calculated the transfer values of players in the five major European leagues. The assessment takes into account the key criteria used by market actors such as age, position, contract duration, performance, international status, etc," CIES said on its website.

Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar topped the list at €213 million, followed by Barcelona's Lionel Messi (€202.2 million) and Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane (€194.7).

Salah has been a revelation since joining Liverpool from AS Roma last summer for €42 million, scoring 23 goals in 29 appearances in all competitions.

The 25-year-old is second in the Premier League top scorers' chart with 17 goals, one behind Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.

He missed Liverpool's previous two matches against Burnley in the Premier League and Everton in the FA Cup due to injury but should be fit to play against runaway league leaders Manchester City next week.

Salah was voted as Africa's best player by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) last week.
