Egyptian winger Mahmoud Trezeguet netted his first double with Aston Villa to give them a precious 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace and revive their survival hopes in the English Premier League on Sunday.

Trezeguet opened the scoring on the stroke of halftime when he popped up at the far post to make the most of Palace's failure to deal with a free kick and fire home from close range.

He ensured the win just before the hour mark, slotting home from inside the area after a header Conor Hourihane found its way past the defence and picked him out unmarked. He was replaced for Anwar El-Ghazi with two minutes remaining.

Trezeguet's previous Premier League goal came in a 2-1 defeat by Chelsea in December.

He has now taken his tally to five league goals since joining Villa from Turkish Super Lig side Kasimpasa in the summer of 2019.

Villa, who have recorded their first victory since January, now lie third from bottom with 30 points, four adrift of the safety zone with three matches remaining.
