Sunderland's Egyptian winger Ahmed Elmohamady has rejoined the club's training sessions after recovering from an ankle injury, the English Premier League side announced late on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old player missed last week's friendly match against Sweden's Helsingborg due to injury, but he seems likely to play a role in tonight's friendly with Derby County as the Black Cats prepare for a new season.

"Elmohamady is back and not doing too badly, so he should be in action," Sunderland coach Martin O'Neill was quoted as saying on the club's official website.

The Pharaohs' right wing-back has struggled to play on a regular basis since O'Neill took over as coash last December.

Recent reports suggested that both Premier League side West Ham and Championship club Hull City are interested in signing the Egyptian player who is engaged at the Stadium of Light until 2014.
