Raja Casablanca and Egypt striker Amr Zaki will be out of action for an unspecified period after undergoing ankle surgery in Munich.
A statement posted on Zaki's official Facebook page said he had gone under the knife after sustaining an injury in a friendly game between Morocco's Raja, who finished as the Club World Cup runners-up last year, and Portugal's Vitoria Guimaraes.
"It's not clear yet how much time he will spend on the sidelines," the statement added.
"He will be assessed by the doctor during the next couple of days, after which his rehabilitation programme will be determined."
Zaki has joined Raja in January after ending a brief and unsuccessful spell with Kuwaiti club Al-Salmiya in a bid to resurrect his faltering career.
The former Zamalek marksman has struggled for form during the past two years due to constant injuries. He remains a key player of Egypt's squad though.
