The Tunisian professionals league has been delayed due to security reasons, according to a radio announcement on Friday.

The Tunisian radio revealed Friday that the interior ministry asked the Tunisian Football Federation (TFF) to delay the start of the football league scheduled to be launched on Sunday due to security reasons.

A TFF official also revealed that they did not receive an official request from the interior ministry.

Esperance de Tunis clinched the 2013-2014 Tunisian League title after beating Monastir.

The Tunisian league had been suspended for one season in 2011 after widespread protests erupted in Tunisia and eventually led to the overthrow of former president Zine El-Abidine Ben Ali.

Although league play later resumed, up until now, it has been behind closed doors.

The 2014-2015 football league season was scheduled to start on Sunday but after Friday's report of the delay, Tunisian fans will  have to wait for the final decision and a new date.
