Tunisian side Etoile du Sahel have opened their CAF Confederation Cup group stage campaign with a 1-0 win at home to Stade Malien on Friday.

Striker Baghdad Bounejah scored what proved to be the winner in the 70th minute to give Etoile an opening Group A win.

The Tunisian giants made the most of their home advantage to lead their group that also includes Egypt's Ahly and Esperance of Tunisia, who meet on Sunday.

The Malian side finished with ten men after their forward Souleymane Traore was sent off 10 minutes from time.

Etoile du Sahel reached the Confederation Cup group stage by beating Raja Athletic Club of Morocco in the round of 16 3-2 on aggregate.

Stade Malien qualified for the group stage after beating AS Vita of DR Congo 4-3 on aggregate.
