Egypt and Ahly star Mohamed Abou-Treika will not take part in honouring Nigeria’s former star Nwankwo Kanu today

Ahly playmaker Mohamed Abou-Treika has apologized for not being able to take part in today’s testimonial match for Nigeria’s former striker Nwankwo Kanu in Lagos.

The Pharaohs star, who is suffering from a calf injury that will keep him out of action for four weeks, flew instead to Saudi Arabia for doing Umrah (lesser pilgrimage), according to Ahram Arabic gate.

Last month, Abou-Treika was invited with his teammate Ahmed Hassan to play alongside some other football stars in Africa against Nigeria in the festival of the Super Eagles former hitman.

The 32-year gifted playmaker is expected to return to Egypt within two days to continue his rehab program.

Also Egypt’s former star and Zamalek coach Hossam Hassan will miss the game after failing to get the visa to Nigeria.

The experienced Kanu, 34-years-old, played for Ajax, Inter Milan and Arsenal before settling with Portsmouth in 2006. In 2010 he ended his 16-year-long international career when Nigeria’s elimination from the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

It was reported that African football stars, like George Weah, Kalusha Bwalya, Michael Essien, Asamoah Gyan, Sully Muntari, Samuel Eto'o and Emmanuel Adebayor have all showed their interest in attending the event.
