FIFA has requested the Tunisian Football Federation to deduct Esperance six points should the club fail to pay Ghana right-back Harrison Afful his dues by 26 June, Ghanasoccernet reported.
Columbus Crew defender Afful, who joined the major soccer league side in the summer of 2015 on a free transfer from Esperance, has been in a wage row with the Tunisian giants for a significant period of time.
According to Ghanaian reports, it is the third time Esperance has failed to pay the 29-year-old fullback's dues in time, as he filed a case with the world football governing body against his old club last month.
Should the debt remain unpaid after being deducted points, 26-time league champions Esperance could well face relegation to the lower division after FIFA authorised the Tunisian football federation with such powers.
It remains to be seen how the case would be solved between the two-time CAF Champions League winners and Ghana's Afful – who has remained on their books for six years.
