ZESCO United of Zambia boosted their hopes of reaching the CAF Champions League semifinals after beating ASEC Mimosas of Ivory Coast 3-1 at home on Saturday.
ZESCO went joint top of Group A along with Morocco's Wydad Casablanca on six points but the latter will go three clear if they beat Egypt's Ahly, who have no points after two opening defeats, later in the day.
The hosts had the upper hand as ASEC Mimosas, who are third in the group with three points, fell behind in the first half with goals from Jackson Mwanza (32 minutes) and Adama Bahn (36).
Youssouf Dao gave ASEC a lifeline in the 77th minute but ZESCO's Idris Mbombo dashed the Ivorian side hopes of when he added the third two minutes later.
