A young Tunisian man committed suicide yesterday as a result of his beloved team Esperance's harsh defeat against TP Mazembe of Congo on Sunday night.
The title holders TP Mazembe thrashed the Tunisian side 5-0 in the first leg of the African Champions league final. The result makes Esperance’s mission to win in the return match impossible.
Tunisian online newspaper “Al Tunisia” affirmed on Tuesday that the 22 year old supporter, who lives in El Mahazba village, was particularly sad after his team's humiliation by the Congolese side.
The boy refused to talk to anyone after the match and stayed in his room until Monday morning, when his family found him hanging in the window.
The newspaper affirmed that all the residents of the village were shocked by the news of the suicide.
The defeat was extremely hard for Esperance supporters as it is the worst in their history of African competitions.
The African football federation (CAF) said on its official site that Esperance’s defeat is the second heaviest in the final’s history.
