Algeria kicked off their African Nations Cup qualifying group in convincing style, beating Togo 1-0 in Blida on Sunday.
Anderlecht attacking midfielder Sofiane Hanni scored what proved to be the winner after 24 minutes to give Algeria a winning start.
He met a flick-on header with a superb angled lob over the advancing keeper and Algeria held on to claim all three points.
They are joint leaders with Benin, who defeated Gambia 1-0 earlier in the day.
Stephan Sessegnon netted the only goal in the 55th minute.
