Egyptian side Ahly will have a tough mission in the Champions League quarters in September when they face Esperance after the Tunisian giants hammered Saint George of Ethiopia 4-0 on Sunday to advance as Group C leaders.
In the other group game, defending champions Sundowns were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Congolese side Vita Club but they had already booked the second qualifying ticket to the last eight.
Esperance finished on top of the group with 12 points, three ahead of second-placed Sundowns. They will meet record eight-time winners Ahly of Egypt in a mouthwatering two-legged quarter-final clash in September.
Esperance produced a vivid attacking display against Saint George, who looked totally helpless.
Tunisian international defender Khelil Chammam opened the scoring in the 29 th minutes with a fierce shot from outside the area before lively forward Bilel Mejri doubled the lead seven minutes later.
Haythem Jouini made it 3-0 six minutes from time and Ali Machani completed the rout in stoppage time as Esperance secured a comprehensive victory.
Ahly secured their place in the last eight on Saturday after finishing second of Group D at the expense of Zambian side Zanaco.
Both sides have 11 points but Ahly advanced virtue of a better goal difference than Zanaco as both sides were tied in the head-to-head record.
