Ghana will have to do without star duo Asamoah Gyan and Christian Atsu against Egypt due to injury when both teams face off for their final World Cup Group E qualifier in Cape Coast on Sunday.

With Egypt having already secured top spot to qualify for next year’s finals in Russia, Ghana’s hopes of giving the group winners some hard time away from home has been dealt a blow with the omission of the key pair.

The Ghanaian football association announced on their official Twitter account that Kayserispor striker Gyan has suffered a thigh strain, while Atsu – who plays for English Premier League side Newcastle - has sustained a thigh muscle tear.

As a result, the Ghanaian national team’s medical staff is now sweating on the fitness of winger Patrick Twumasi, who if fit should fill the void left by Atsu.

Egypt manager Hector Cuper, on the other side, left out Liverpool star Mohamed Salah and West Bromwich key center-back Ahmed Hegazi due to different reasons.

Ghana have managed to reach the past three World Cup editions, while Egypt qualified for next year's finals for the first time since 1990.

Egypt are top of the group with 12 points, while Ghana lie third with six.
