Chelsea striker Didier Drogba
Aston Villa have stepped up their interest in signing Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba who will be out of contract with Chelsea next summer, according to Goal.com,
The English Premier League side, Villa, is preparing to receive a January bid for their own star striking asset Darren Bent from Liverpool when the January transfer window reopens.
Drogba who turns to 34-year old next March is in talks with Chelsea to extend his stay with the Blues for another two years while the Premier League giants conditioned to keep him for only one year.
Goal.com understands that Villa are ready to give Drogba the two-year contract that he wants from Chelsea.
Aston Villa reached an agreement with Liverpool to release their striker Darren Bent this January to free up the cash to match Drogba’s current salary of around £120,000-a-week.
The former Marseille international attacker is currently assessing his options, with strong interest in him from suitors including cash-rich Chinese and Russian clubs, the MLS and Serie A.
