Mamelodi Sundowns right-back Thapelo Morena will undergo surgery to repair a fracture he sustained during an impressive 1-0 victory against SuperSport United at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday evening in the Nedbank Cup, the South African club announced.

"Thapelo Morena has sustained a fracture as well as ligament damage on his right ankle," read a statement on Mamelodi Sundowns' official website on Sunday.
"He is due for an operation today," the statement added.

The 26-year-old Morena is one of the Sundowns' key players who is famed for his pace as well as accurate scoring talent. He made eight scoring assists in all competitions so far this season.

Sundowns are scheduled to face Egyptian giants Ahly in the quarterfinals of the African Champions League on 29 February.

"I haven’t got the full update on him. Very sad. We need Thapelo for the Champions League, and I think the ankle broke. I don’t know, but I think they managed to put it back. I’m not sure about that,” Mosimane told SuperSport TV.
