The Algerian football federation (FAF) has asked FIFA on Friday to move the venue of their game against Mali outside the West African nation which saw a military counter-coup last week, according to a statement issued by FAF.

Algeria is scheduled to face Mali on 9 June in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.

The Desert Warriors revealed that they decided to request moving the game out side of the troubled West African nation due to the ongoing unrest following last Monday's military counter-coup.

“Our request was motivated by what is currently happening in Mali, where violence can break out at any time,” the FAF statement read.

Egyptian Ahly football team was stranded in Mali for five days after last Sunday's 1-0 defeat against Malian side Stade Malien in the first leg of the CAF Champions League round 16.
