French coach Herve Renard admitted that the Chipolopolo didn’t convince during their 1-0 win over Ghana on Saturday, added that this win was very important for Zambia to keep their hopes alive in the qualifiers.
“We did not play a fantastic game but we were efficient. We missed one or two more chances. I hope we do not regret that when we go to play the last game in Accra,” Renard was quoted as saying by ghanasoccernet.
Zambia’ skipper Chris Katongo scored with a deflected shot after 15 minutes to ensure home success after their loss in Sudan last weekend.
The 43-year-old coach who guided Zambia for their first ever continental title last February confirmed that this win kept alive Zambia’s chances in the qualifiers.
“Of course if we lost against Ghana today we would have known that it is over for us. It was very important to win today and get three points,” he added.
Renard insisted that they have to collect the six points from their two upcoming games against Sudan and Zambia before facing Ghana in Accra on the last day of the World Cup qualifiers.
“Before we go to Accra we have two good games, one against Lesotho and a very good return leg against Sudan, and a very good pitch with a good temperature, and after that we go to Ghana,” he concluded.
