Burkina Faso win CAN U-17 championship

Burkina Faso took the ninth CAN U-17 Championship by defeating hosts Rwanda 2-1 in the final on Saturday

“We lost because of exhaustion and tough pressure on the players,” Rwanda tactician Tardy Richard said in the match press conference.

The Burkinabe claimed the championship title when forward Sanou Zaniou netted the first goal in the 59th minute, while their lead didn’t hold too long as Rwanda midfielder stroke from outside the area to score the equalizing goal in the 67th minute.

In spite of being reduced to only ten men after defender Kanazoe Bassirou was sent off, Burkina Faso maintained their domination and Kabore Aziz clinched the winner in the 77th minute.

The four semi-finalists, Burkina Faso, Rwanda, Ivory Coast and DR Congo, qualified for the World Championship U-17 that wil be held in Mexico next June.
