Asamoah Gyan revealed on Tuesday that he had played through the pain barrier in Sunday's world Cup qualifier against Sudan.
The 27-year-old, who opened the scoring in the 4-0 win over Sudan, took part in the game despite suffering a mild thigh injury in a pre-match training session.
"I had this injury in training but I had to sacrifice for the team. I felt a muscle and had to go out for someone," Gyan told the Ghana football Association official website on Tuesday.
"I am happy we won and I am willing to sacrifice for the team."
Gyan expressed his delight over his team's comprehensive victory against Sudan, which came after group leaders Zambia were held to a 1-1 home draw by Lesotho.
The Black Stars remained second in Group D with six points, just one point behind Zambia.
"It’s a great thing for us. We must now concentrate on the next game," Gyan, who plays for Emirati club Al-Ain, added.
"Yeah, Zambia drew so it boosted our confidence. We came all out to win."
