Ghana's Essien out of Real Madrid trip to Bilbao

Real Madrid will be without their Ghanaian midfielder for the game against Athletic Bilbao in the Spainish La Liga on Sunday

Ghana midfielder Michael Essien is out of Real Madrid's match with Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish La Liga on Sunday after he suffered a knee injury.

Coach Jose Mourinho named 20 players in the squad, excluding Essien, defender Alvaro Arbeloa, midfielder Mesut Ozil and back-up playmaker Kaka, who are also injured.

Essien, who won two Premier League titles, four FA Cups and one Champions League title at Chelsea, is on loan at Real Madrid until the end of the season.

The Real Madrid squad for Bilbao game:

Goalkeepers: Diego López, Casillas y Adán.

Defenders: Varane, Pepe, Ramos, Coentrão, Carvalho, Marcelo, Albiol y Nacho.

Midfielders: Khedira, Xabi Alonso, Modric, Callejón y Di María.

Strikers: Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema, Higuaín y Morata.
