Despite their 2-0 loss against Ahly last Friday at Cairo International Stadium, Super Sport coach Gavin Hunt claims that his team can beat them at home.
“In the build up to this game people spoke about them as if they were invincible, but in fact they played like an ordinary team. We dominated them in their backyard,” Hunt was quoted as saying by Kickoff magazine on Monday.
The Red Devils took an early step towards qualifying for the next round with a deserved win, thanks to goals from striking duo Osama Hosny and Dominique Da Silva.
Hunt is convinced that his players missed a lot of crucial chances, but he wants them to deliver better performances in their match at home to keep Ahly players away from the net.
"Kermit Erasmus missed golden opportunities, Morgan Gould hit the crossbar and Tebogo Langerman wasted a golden one-on-one opportunity to get that elusive away goal,” Hunt explained.
“We can overturn this deficit; if we play the way we did, why not? We were the better side in Cairo, we just have to ensure that they don’t score or else they will kill off the contest with an away goal.”
Super Sport players need to believe in their abilities to overcome the six-time Champions League winners, according to Hunt.
"What I can say is that I’m proud of the guys and I believe that they can cause an upset in Polokwane, and come up with a plan to beat them."
"They may be the favourites but we can still send them packing if we believe in ourselves,” Hunt concluded.
The second leg will be held in two weeks time at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, South Africa.
