A distraught three-year-old girl was convinced by Manchester United that she can still wear blue and support the Red Devils after she threw a tantrum at her parents for putting on a blue school uniform because of the color's link to Manchester City.
In a widely circulated video, little Lilly Rae Doyle sobbed when she was trying on a blue shirt as she is set to start primary school later this month, persistently saying that "it looks so blue".
"Are you listening? Blue isn't just for City. United have blue too," her mother told her, but to no avail.
Manchester United, City's arch-rivals, moved to cheer her up after the video went viral on social media.
The club invited her to Old Trafford and handed her the away United blue kit, which she has delightfully put on.
"No tears today for #mufc fan Lilly – as we showed her she can still be a Red and wear blue," Man United said on Twitter.
'Nightmare'
"We went to buy the uniform earlier this week and we thought once she had it on we might be able to talk her round," Lilly's mother was quoted as saying by Manchester Evening news.
"It was a nightmare, I don’t know how we’re going to get on when it’s her first day at school because she’s not changing her mind. I don’t think it’s going to be easy.
"It’s tough to see my little girl upset but I’m sure she’ll get used to the new uniform. She’s so passionate about United and I think the video’s brilliant, I hope it’s something which will make other people smile as well," she added.
