Twenty-nine years after Maradona's "Hand of God" goal, the Argentinean legend posted on his Facebook account two photos showing him with Tunisian referee Ali Bennaceur who allowed his famous goal against England in the 1986 World Cup quarters.
The Tunisian referee allowed one of the most controversial goals in football history when Maradona punched the ball past England goalkeeper Peter Shilton, opening the door for Argentina to beat England 2-1 in the 1986 World Cup quarters.
Asked about this goal after the game, Maradona said that it was the "Hand of God."
The Argentinean icon visited Tunisia last weekend and met with the former referee, and described the meeting as "an emotional reunion.”
"This weekend I visited Tunisia and I had an emotional reunion with Ali Bennaceur, the referee of the England match in Mexico, 1986," Maradona said on his Facebook account on Monday.
"I gave him an Argentina shirt and he gave me the picture of that game that hangs in his home. My dedication: ‘For Ali, my eternal friend.’”
