English Premier League champions, Manchester United have signed a five-year contract with Premier League rival Aston Villa winger Ashley Young.
“Manchester United is delighted to announce it has reached agreement with Aston Villa for the transfer of Ashley Young,” the club’s official website stated on Thursday.
The Aston Villa and England winger’s deal is one of the reds’ highest bids this season as he reportedly handed 17 million pounds ($27 million), to move to Old Trafford.
“The player passed a medical in Manchester this week and has agreed a five-year contract,” the reds’ statement added.
Young, who had 12 months left on his contract with Villa, has joined United on a five-year deal to add further strength to the English champions' attacking options.
Young can play on either wing and also in a central position behind the strikers. He has played 15 times for England, most recently against Switzerland at the start of the month when he came off the bench to score the equalizer in a 2-2 draw.
United has already signed defender Phil Jones from Blackburn this summer for a reported 16 million pounds.
