The 33-year-old Klose, who has made 112 appearances for Germany and scored 62 times, has netted 14 goals at three World Cup finals and wants to break Ronaldo's all-time record of 15 for Brazil.

With Poland and the Ukraine set to host the Euro 2012 finals next June, Klose has already said he wants to help Germany try and win a fourth European title, but is also planning to play at his fourth World Cup finals.

Klose, who currently plays for Rome-based Lazio in the Italian league, faces fierce competition for his Germany place from ex-Bayern Munich team-mate Mario Gomez.

But the Poland-born star wants to play on until his 36th birthday in June 2014 and to take Ronaldo's record.

"If everything goes to plan, I will play on with Lazio until the 2014 World Cup and then that will be it," he told German magazine Kicker.

Klose scored five goals at both the 2002 and 2006 tournaments and four at the 2010 finals in South Africa.

He is just six short of Gerd Mueller's record as the top-scorer of all-time for Germany, but Klose is desperate to break Ronaldo's record for most World Cup goals.

"Anyone who knows my ambition knows that appeals to me," he said.

Klose showed his form on Sunday by scoring 20 seconds from the final whistle to hand Lazio derby honours in a 2-1 victory over Roma in the Italian league.

Having spent four years at Bayern Munich, Klose signed a two-year deal for Lazio before the start of the season after the German giants offered him only a one-year deal in Munich.
