UAE Football Association president resigns

AP, Wednesday 14 Dec 2011

The president of the United Arab Emirates Football Association has resigned following the national team’s poor form in the Asian Cup and World Cup qualifying

General secretary Yousef Abdullah says Khalfan al-Rumaithi resigned this week, though he refused to say what prompted the decision. The FA’s board was also dissolved after four of its 11 members resigned. It will hold elections on Tuesday for a new board.

The 120th-ranked UAE has no chance of advancing from Group B after losing all its five matches and being outscored 12-5. The national team, whose only World Cup appearance was in 1990, also failed to advance out of the group stage at this year’s Asian Cup.
