Real Madrid are ready to pay a £70m release clause to secure the services of English Premier League star Luiz Suarez, the UK-based Metro reports.

Suarez, who has scored 20 league goals for Liverpool so far this season, inked a new deal with the Reds that would see him earn a reported £200,000 per week back in December.

The 26-year-old's contract, however, contains a £70m release clause - which he could invoke in case he wished to part ways with the club should they fail to claim Champions League qualification.

Real Madrid are believed to be aiming to beef up their frontline, given the inconsistent displays of France striker Karim Benzema.

Liverpool, who missed out on this season's Champions League after finishing seventh last term, are currently fourth of the English Premier League – six points adrift of leaders Arsenal.
