Abbas, 24, who has scored twice in 41 games for the Jets over the last two seasons, has been given an extended contract through to the 2011-12 A-League season.

"I am so happy to have another season with the Jets," Abbas said.

"I am thankful to (coach) Branko Culina and the coaching staff for believing in me and now I cannot wait to begin training and start the hard work."

Abbas made six international appearances and played in Iraq's Asian Cup victory in Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia in 2007 before moving to Australia in 2009.
