Egypt moved within touching distance of a place at the World Championship last 16 after beating Czech Republic 27-24 on Tuesday.

Egypt's second victory gives them 4 points from three matches as they are on the verge of advancing to the knockout phase.

The first four teams in each group advance to the second round.

The Pharaohs gained a two-goal lead inside the first 10 minutes, dominated the rest of the first half and went to the locker room with a 13-10 lead.

Czech Republic were lively in the early stages of the second half, making it 15-15 after five minutes. However, some superb saves from Egypt keeper Karim Hendawy, who was named man of the match, allowed Egypt to regain control to win 27-24.

Egypt will meet European heavyweights Sweden in their fourth Group C match on Thursday.
