Egypt's men's volleyball team have suffered their fifth successive defeat in the FIVB Volleyball World Cup in Japan after losing 3-0 to the United States on Sunday.

The US's Taylor Sandor scored 14 points while Matt Anderson and Aaron Russell added 11 each as the US improved to 5-0 for 15 points. The comfortable victory means that the US remain in first place.

"The USA is a strong team and has a strong system. They have big names," Egypt coach Nenad Shehata said after the game.

"We did our best. It was another good experience for us. My players are improving from one match to the next."

Egypt are 11th with only three points collected over three losses -- to Japan, Canada and Italy.

"There is a lot of stress on the players in this match. Our players are in good condition and are ready to play. We practiced playing matches at different times, including in the mornings, for this tournament," the tactician concluded.

Egypt captain Ahmed Abdelhay, who is the competition's second top scorer, said he believed the American team was the favorite to win the title.

"The USA team had a good system of blocking. They are a good team and are the favorites to win this tournament." Abdelhay told the post-game press conference.

In other matches, Argentina beat Tunisia 25-20, 25-19, 25-20 to improve to 3-2. Defending champion Russia is in third place and faces Iran later on Sunday.

The Egyptian team, who won their sixth successive and eighth overall African title on 30 July, are targeting an improved global ranking of seventh or eighth. They achieved their highest ever ranking in 2009, coming eleventh.

The Pharaohs' next game will be against Argentina on 16 September.
