The British Olympic Association’s policy of imposing lifetime bans is under scrutiny. The Court of Arbitration for Sport threw out an IOC rule that bars any athlete who has received a doping suspension of more than six months from competing in the next games.
WADA’s European director Frederic Donze tells The Associated Press that“the fight against doping in sport needs to be proportionate and … needs to respect the rights of the athletes.”
Donze says legal experts have told WADA that lifetime bans for first-time doping “may be actually challenged before the courts … and not be sustainable.”
