Raneem El-Welily has defeated compatriot world number one Nour El-Sherbini to snatch the Al-Ahram Squash Open title alongside Karim Abdel-Gawad, who also beat fellow Egyptian Ali Farag for the $200,000 trophy.

El-Welily, ranked world number five, edged out El-Sherbini 3-2 in a thrilling five setter, which have seen the former lead 2-0 after 11/5 and 11/9 wins.

El-Sherbini, however, showed determination to get back into the game, leveling the score with 11/9 and 11/9 wins to make it 2-2.

But the former world number one El-Welily managed to eventually prevail, winning the final set 11/7 to claim the title following an intense 61-minute final.

In the men's tournament, Abdel-Gawad didn't labor much to beat fourth-seed Farag, claiming a 3-0 victory with straight 11/4, 11/7 and 11/5 wins in 41 minutes.

The Al-Ahram Squash Open, which returned to Giza after a 10-year absence, has seen another world number one in Mohamed El-Shorbagi eliminated in the semis at the hands of Farag who eventually lost in the final.
