2019 World Swimming Championships: Farida Osman reaches 50m butterfly final

Egyptian swimmer Farida Osman has qualified for the women’s 50m butterfly finals at the 2019 World Swimming Championships in Gwangju after finishing fifth in the semis with a time of 25.79 seconds.

Osman won her preliminary round heat on Friday afternoon with a time of 25.71 seconds, finishing third in the overall heat rankings.

The final will be on Saturday.

She failed to qualify for the women’s 100m freestyle semifinals after finishing 28th in the overall heat rankings on Thursday.

On Sunday, the 24-year-old Osman made her first appearance at the prestigious tournament, ranking 17th in the heats of the women's 100m butterfly.

Osman won Best Female Athlete from Africa at the Association of National Olympic Committees’ 2017 awards in Prague, a few months after she made national history by winning Egypt's first-ever medal at the swimming World Championships in Budapest.

In the women's 100m freestyle, Osman failed to reach the semifinals after finishing 28th in the overall heat rankings with a time of 54.93 seconds on Thursday.

In the men's 100m freestyle, Ali Khalafalla finished first in his heat and 26th in the overall heat rankings with a time of 49.22 seconds on Wednesday.

In the men's 200m medley, Mohamed Samy finished fifth in his heat and 32nd in the overall heat rankings with  2:02.57 minutes on Wednesday.

In the men's 50m breaststroke, Youssef El-Kamash finished 24th in the heats with 27.62 seconds on Tuesday.

In the men's 800m freestyle, Marwan El-Kamash finished 26th in the heats with 8:07.97 minutes on Tuesday.

In the men's 100m backstroke, Samy finished 39th in the heats with 55.87 seconds on Monday.

In the men's 50m butterfly, Abdel-Rahman Sameh qualified for the semifinals after finishing 15th in the heats with a time of 23.54 seconds on Sunday. Later on Sunday, he recorded 23.68 in the semis to finish in 16th place.

In the men's 100m breaststroke, Youssef El-Kamash finished 31st in the heats with a time of 1:01.24 minutes on Sunday.

In the women's 100m butterfly, Osman ranked 17th in the heats with 58.43 seconds on Sunday.

In the men's 400m freestyle, Marwan El-Kamash finished 23rd in the heats with a time of 3:52.21 minutes on Sunday.
