Egypt forward Mohamed Mamdouh Hashem said on Wednesday that the Pharaohs are looking to realize an 'unprecedented' achievement in the ongoing World Championship that takes place in Egypt.

The hosts kicked off their campaign with an easy 35-29 win over Chile on Wednesday to top their group with two points.

"I am happy with this important win," Hashem told ONtime sports after the game.

"The game confirmed that we are on the right track before our two difficult clashes against Macedonia and Sweden.

"All players are determined to impress as we are looking to realize an unprecedented achievement in this tournament," he added.

Egypt's best result in the World Championship was a fourth-place finish in the 2001 edition in France.

Meanwhile, Egypt coach Roberto García Parrondo said his side would get better in their next games.

"We played a good game against Chile, especially in the second half," he said.

"I am very satisfied with the players' performance and I think they will improve in the next matches."

The Spaniard also revealed that the team's veteran star Ahmed Al-Ahmar is suffering from a back injury that sidelined him against Chile and it's not yet clear if he will be able to take part in the next game.

Egypt will face Macedonia on Saturday before ending their group stage campaign with a tough clash against Sweden.
