Spain routed Denmark 35-19 before a home crowd Sunday to win its second world handball championship.

Spain's defense triggered a counterattack that overran Denmark.

Joan Canellas led Spain with seven goals while Valero Rivera had six and Julen Aguinagalde and Jorge Maqueda five each. Goalkeeper Arpad Sterbik made 14 saves.

Spain's first world championship came in 2005. Denmark lost its third final after also finishing runner-up in 1967 and 2011.
